Footcare Products Available from Northgate Podiatry	CCS Range of Footcare Products. CCS is a Swedish company and make the best foot care cream that we have come across. It contains Urea (10%), which is a natural body moisturiser - and it really works. Our patients love it, and come back for more time after time. £4.50 We also stock their foot spray, which is excellent for sweaty/smelly feet. £6.50 Silipos Foot Protection Products. Silipos produce a range of products incorporating a gel that is designed to absorb and reduce shearing stress. The gel is a polymer made up of 85% mineral oil, which helps to keep the skin soft and lubricated. The most popular item that we stock is a neat digital pad (£3.00 each) that can be slipped over a toe to protect the top or between the toe. Anything that we don't have in stock, we can order direct for you from the company. They are very quick to deliver! Orthotics We have access to a wide range of orthotics from a wide range of suppliers. However, our favourite one is a company called Langer based here in the UK. They provide us with an orthotic that covers 90% of our needs and is easily customised for you. It is a rigid material, which is what you require to control how your foot functions as it hits the ground. They are extremely good value £76.00 including fitting. Compare that to custom-made orthotics prices! Plus, they can be adjusted infinitely (by us for free). Latex Gloves A strange item for us to sell I know. But a number of our patients had been asking if they could buy a box from us for various reasons - jobs round the house, gardening, etc. They are a medical quality, textured to improve grip, unpowdered and last quite a long time. They come in a box of 100, and cost £5.99.
Advice on purchasing Footwear	If you have never been to one before, make an appointment with a Health Professions Registered (HPC) Chiropodist/ Podiatrist and let them check out your feet. They'll ask about your work and or lifestyle and give you pointers to look for when choosing styles of shoes. This applies particularly to sports shoes. There are so many different types of trainers, it can be difficult to know which one is best for the sport that you participate in. Be aware of any problems that you have with your feet, and don't buy shoes that you know make them worse! Common sense I know, but you would be surprised at the number of people that come to us, knowing that the shoes they are wearing are making their feet worse. Shoes don't cause the problems, they merely aggrevate underlying problems. Consult a professional for advice. Choose footwear that is appropriate for your needs. Try and buy shoes from shops that have trained fitters. Fitting shoes is a skilled job that shouldn't be just for children's shoes.
